Word Is Cheap x VOTD | Brain Wash
Liam Achaibou and Ryan Vernava are the co-founders of film and arts collective Brain Wash. Launching in 2009 and several years after its inception, Brain Wash has surfaced as a reliable platform for showcasing innovative and emerging creative talent who more mainstream outlets would deviate from due to the more subversive nature of the content.
Between the two of them, Liam and Ryan both have extensive backgrounds as visual artists. Liam has worked on arts festivals across Europe and the USA, on over 20 international film programmes including the BFI funded DVDBANG. Ryan’s project ‘Century Tower’ has tipped him as one of the UK’s top 25 emerging filmmakers and has had films screened at Oscar and BAFTA qualifiers around the world.
Liam Achaibou and Ryan Vernava’s Favourite Music Videos. Enjoy!
NEW TOPIA > THIS WILL DESTROY YOU, directed by Lilfuchs (2015)
Lilfuchs' epic video for This Will Destroy You does exactly that. The progressive journey through the seven sacraments combining
colour, form and symbol is as thought provoking as it is moving. Its simple but well balanced aesthetic is powerful, dynamic and remains consistently mesmerising and inventive.
PLURABELLE > OUR FIRES, directed by Mattis Dovier (2014)
Drawing inspiration from Maruo Suehiro’s erotique-grotesque visual style and the work of Cronenberg, Lynch and Kubrick, celebrated GIF artist Mattis Dovier delivers an ominous 8 bit horror perfectly married to Plurabelle’s electro gothic sounds.
AKIRA > GHOST, directed by MUTI (2015)
From Pac Man to Skeletor to Akira (with bonus lazer-cat pimples) Muti's animated brain-fart is a generation game conveyor belt of my favourite childhood characters. It's short, sweat and there isn't a whole lot not to like.
DUSKY > YOHOO, directed by Charlioe Robins (2014)
Charlie Robins's 90s inspired music vid for Dusky taks us back to asimpler time when acid-house was still in full swing. You cant knock a vid that is like watching lawnmower man on strong LSD.
